There are many reasons why you may think you don’t need an eye cream…
You may think your daily moisturiser will do the trick (it won’t), that skin is skin – the eye area is no different to the rest of my face (it is) and I get Botox so there’s no need (yes, there is).
Let’s start with the skin around the eye area.
Your eye area is one of the first areas to show signs of premature ageing (hello, Botox) – fine lines and wrinkles appear due to squinting and constant movement. Plus, your skin is more fragile, finer and dryer as there are fewer oil glands (and of course these diminish as we get older).
Combined with sun exposure and our natural ageing this causes our eye area to look older before its time.
Won’t my normal moisturiser do the same job?
Well formulated eye creams are the “grenades” of your skin care program.
These intense concentrations of active ingredients such as Vitamin C, peptides, and retinol “bomb” the eye area to boost collagen production. Ceramides and hyaluronic acid also important; as these moisturisers help prevent water loss in the skin and improve elasticity. In combination, these ingredients help reduce the appearance of fine lines and help increase collagen to slow down new lines forming.
A similar formulation on you’re the rest of your skin would overload the skin with too much of a good thing resulting possible breakout and a “greasy” feel.
Hey, but I get Botox…
Botox is ideal for stopping the appearance of your dynamic wrinkles – these are the wrinkles you make when you smile, laugh, squint etc. When you are not smiling, laughing crying these wrinkles go away.
Botox does not work on static lines and wrinkles. These are the wrinkles that remain after you stop laughing and crying.
A well-formulated eye cream helps reduce the appearance of static wrinkles by stimulating collagen and so plumps out these lines.
So, no more wrinkles?
Of course not! Wrinkles and fine lines are a part of your natural ageing process. Eye creams help reduce the appearance of lines, nourish the delicate skin around the eye area and help slow down the breakdown of collagen and elastin.
And finally, eye creams smooth out and super hydrate your eye area, and this is particularly important if you like to wear makeup – it can help stop makeup “caking” in your wrinkles!
So, do you really need an eye cream? Sure do!
