“Honey, I’ve had a little something done”
Sam from Sex and the City calls Carrie with the news of her “impulse” chemical peel and it doesn’t go well.
In fact, it was an epic disaster!
However, this is not how it should work.
Your skin is unique – just like your fingerprint, you’re one of a kind. That’s why “a one size fits all” is not how we approach your skin journey.
Your treatment journey starts with Complete Skin Consult where your Expert Skin Therapist creates a treatment plan to address your skin concerns, your future plans and your budget.
But what works for you?
Let’s start with…
Why do I need a skin peel?
- Do you want to restore your skin health?
- Do you want to reduce signs of premature ageing?
- Would you like to reduce skin dryness?
- Are you tired of ugly pimples and blackheads?
- Would like a more even skin tone?
Then a Skin Workout is your easy solution – cost effective, low risk and with real visible results.
- What is a peel?
Unlike a classic facial, Skin Workout treatments (aka skin peels or resurfacing) are designed to help repair and rejuvenate your skin through accelerated exfoliation.
A skin workout sloughs off dead skin cells, bringing fresh, new skin to the surface as well as helping congested skin follicles.
- What are the benefits of facial peels?
As we age, our skin’s ability to shed the build-up of unhealthy dead layers of skin slows down. Unprotected sun exposure also inhibits this process resulting in the skin becoming increasingly dull and devitalized.
This is when we need to give our skin a “workout”. Besides eliminating dead skin cells Skin Workouts will:
- minimise the appearance of wrinkles
- bring clarity to a dull/uneven skin tone
- smooth rough, bumpy skin
- unclog pores
- increase skin hydration
- help active ingredients penetrate more efficiently and effectively
- What type of skin peel should I get?
There are many types of facial peels and are differentiated by the products used and the depth of the peel.
Peels can be superficial, mid-depth or deep. Effective peel mediums include:
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids –- Glycolic, Mandelic, Lactic are some examples
- Beta Hydroxy Acids – Salicylic
- Mechanical – Microdermabrasion
- Enzymatic – Bromelain (derived from pineapples)
- Retinol – a derivative of Vitamin A
- VitaPeel- a combination of Salicylic, Resorcinol, Lactic Acid and Citric Acid
The combination of superficial and mid-depth can work in combination. Typically, you start with a superficial peel working towards a more advanced peel.
- Can anyone have a peel?
No, not everyone can have a peel – this is dependent on your skin condition and medications you are taking.
Skin Workouts ARE suitable for all sexes and all ages. BHA peels are essential in helping reduce congestion for acne.
Not sure if you’re a candidate? We can help with a Complete Skin Consults to accurately assess your skin concerns.
- Is one skin peel enough?
For superficial and mid-depth the greatest benefits are seen after a series of approximately 6 peels over the course of several months. For optimal results, every 2 to 3 weeks is recommended.
If you’re planning a big event – say, a wedding, significant birthday or, school reunion and of course, you want to look your very best I recommend starting a minimum of three months before the event.
A series of peels with a combination of nourishing and hydrating skin treatments will have your skin plump, glowing and people asking…”Has she? or hasn’t she???”
- Are there any drawbacks?
Peels may cause mild inflammation, itching or dryness depending on your skin sensitivity. These effects can be minimised by using the correct products and following aftercare instructions.
