Winter is coming – and here’s your wintervention

//Winter is coming – and here’s your wintervention

With the relief from the scorching summer weather and the cooler temperatures settling in across the country, it’s time to face facts: winter is nearly here. While the changing seasons can bring with it the novelty of winter fashion and warming beverages (chai lattes, anyone?) it can also present a few challenges for your skin.

Several people find as winter comes around, their radiant summer complexion is slowly taken over by dry, dull skin, but this doesn’t have to be the case!

To help you prepare for winter, your Brenwood team has put together some top tips to take care of your skin.

Step up your moisturising game

To prevent your skin from suffering during the cooler months, your summer moisturising routine will most likely need a few tweaks. A heavier moisturiser such as the Ultra Rich Moisturiser Cream might be to help retain vital hydration and support your skin’s barrier function. With Essential Fatty Acids, Ceramides and our unique Advanced Moisturising Complex, this moisture-rich formula helps to nourish and repair skin, providing all-day hydration for a smooth complexion.

Humectants, such as Hyaluronic Acid, which actively attract moisture to your skin are another winter lifesaver. The Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum contains Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and Hyaluronic Acid (capable of holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water), as well as Provitamin B5 to plump up the skin for a more dewy, hydrated complexion.

Here are my tips for keeping your lipid barrier skin barrier hydrated and healthy…

  1. At night apply Hydration Booster under your moisturiser
  2. Step up your moisturiser – consider a Cream instead of Lotion
  3. Avoid hot showers and try not to position your face directly under the shower (water is dehydrating)
  4. Consider a nourishing face mask (and leave on overnight!)
  5. Exfoliate – a physical or liquid exfoliant helps remove dead skin cells allows better penetration of your moisturisers
  6. And of course, sunscreen (yes even in winter).

Combat the warmth

If your home or workplace tends to crank up the indoor heating during winter, you’ll likely find your skin feeling dry or uncomfortably tight. One way to help prevent your skin from drying out is to use a humidifier which can restore the moisture to the air. Placing a few of these throughout your home can help to ensure a moisture-rich environment that is kinder to your skin.

Nourishing Cleansers

To help maintain optimum moisture levels in your skin, try Ultra Hydrating Milk Cleanser to remove make-up and daily debris while nourishing the skin with Vitamin E and Grape Seed Oil.

Don’t forget your sunscreen

Just because you’re not hitting the beach and basking in the warm sun this winter, doesn’t mean that you should forget about sun protection altogether. While it may not feel sweltering hot, the winter sun can still do plenty of damage. UVA rays are present all year round and are the main contributing factor for accelerated ageing.

If you are heading to the snow, sun glare can be a serious concern, with levels of UV radiation higher in alpine regions

Our Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser Range combines essential moisture with SPF to ensure you’re taking care of your skin in the winter months.
